ABSTRACT

International agencies are capable of violating human rights. Thus there is a need for a mechanism for sounding the alarm and taking corrective action when they violate or are suspected of violating human rights. International human rights law can be understood as a project of articulating universally accepted standards of governance with regard to the protection and promotion of human dignity. Although there is no global government as such, there is global governance, visible in the international activities of nations, with the support of international agencies that act on their behalf. There are endless stories of human rights violations by international governmental organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization. Impunity can be understood as the absence of inadequacy of penalties and/or compensation for massive and grave violations of the human rights of individuals or groups of individuals.
