ABSTRACT

The soul of America has been sold to the pursuit to empire. The ostensible profits of empire are for the taking in the richly endowed oil fields of Iraq; as the United States invests more in its military budget than all of the rest of the nations on Earth combined invest in theirs. The blindfolds are on, eclipsing the vision of America's leadership and its people. Charles A. Beard was, by common agreement, the most influential historian in America. When the accusation is made that American foreign policy is "incoherent" it is very incoherency derives from the fact that the crevasse between democracy and empire is a permanent and unbridgeable one. The funding of foreign wars for the expansion of American empire provides an excellent case study for showing the convergence of many conflicting factors that provide the inherent incompatibility of funding a functioning democratic state in accordance with the demands and requirements of running an empire.
