ABSTRACT

PERSONALITY evaluations often have low initial priority in professional work with the mentally retarded. Sometimes this is justified, sometimes not. In situations where a medical judgment is needed on the possibility of an active brain lesion, the personality manifesta-

tions-wh~ther in reaction to the lesion or otherwise-are certainly of secondary importance. In other cases, only a quick estimate of learning capacity is needed. The reasons for the reduced capacity are not considered important.
