ABSTRACT
Ogburn, William Fielding (1886-1959). American sociologist who held a chair at the University of Chicago. At first an advocate of quantitative methods and applied studies. His best-known work however is Social Change: with Respect to Culture and Original Nature, 1922, in which he discusses the factors which explain cultural change, i.e. invention, accumulation, diffusion and adjustment.
