ABSTRACT
My City Year team comes into being on a warm September afternoon in a rustic outdoor chapel by a lake in western Massachusetts. The chapel, a cluster of split-log benches and a rough-hewn rostrum huddled beneath a canopy of spreading oak and pine, is part of YMCA Camp Becket-in-the-Berkshires, where we have all come for five days of intensive orientation to the City Year program.
