ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the music projects which are organized according to the four national contexts, such as, England, Israel, South Africa, and Norway. It highlights the complex relationships between the relatively established music therapy tradition in the UK and a variety of newly-evolving situations, contexts and impacting upon it – including the evolving practice and discourse of community music therapy. The two Israeli Community Music Therapy projects took place in two middle sized towns in the belly of Israel; Raanana and Natanya. The music therapy integration project between children with and without special needs began in Raanana in 1995. Direct experiences of traditional African music healing ceremonies, as well as working with people from urban and rural areas of the country constantly nudged at clinician's mind, uncomfortably in the main. The South African community music therapy endeavors tracked for this research project are located in Heideveld in the Western Cape and in Eersterust, East of Pretoria.
