ABSTRACT

Silence is basic to the becoming of each man and each woman and to the becoming of their relationship. Beyond the differences that exist between the two subjects: man and woman, a silence recalls that my becoming and that of the other cannot be confused. It is never possible to overcome the other, or to overcome the relation with him in a completed or absolute objectivity. Silence, which is the guardian of nature, of life, of difference, prevents these conflicts of the same which lead to death, conflicts about which Hegel speaks. Silence is a better guarantor of reality than is the concept, and that it better protects a non-idealistic becoming. Using the word for sharing requires a defense of silence which respects the life and identity of each person. The "marriage contract" would then become a contract between two different civil persons who preserve their identity rather than losing it in the unity of the familial institution.
