ABSTRACT

It was close to Easter 2002, and 11-year-old Sally (name changed) was playing outside with her little girlfriend. They were in a small picnic area in the front of the trailer park where Sally lived with her family. The picnic area was adjacent to a well-traveled road, and it could be seen from both directions. It was midmorning on this pleasant spring-like day, and the girls were having fun. There were other people in the area at the time, going about their normal business. It was a small community, more rural than urban, where people knew each other and were friendly to strangers. A child abduction—murder was the last thing people thought would occur in their town on that day or on any day.
