ABSTRACT

Br. Samuel Scheuner was born on 27 June 1824 in Ostermungdigen in Canton Bern, Switzerland. His father was a simple but God-seeking man. 1 He [the father] did not belong to a special religious party, but he belonged to the Evangelistic church, and attended it regularly until he met an honest, God-seeking man. [This man] had a pious fire and life, inside of him, had been awakened by the Lord, and led an earnest, Godly life, in which he stayed until his death. [After he was thus awakened our father] did not attend church, with [our] Mother anymore, [instead] he searched for preachers that still had some good in them, but was dissatisfied at the way the church was declining. 2 The influence with which that man, with whom he had been associated, began to ignite a flame in his heart, so he decided to give his heart to God entirely and not to do anything without God’s will. He separated himself entirely from the church and stayed at home. He also had befriended other awakened souls and visited them, wishing God would lead him to such a community which he could join and unite with. At that time, it happened that he met some of the Inspirationists, who told him, about the Inspirationists in Germany. He felt a longing inside of him to meet and know those brothers, which is what happened.
