ABSTRACT

In the 1530s Dr Lasocki's — authoritative — five sons, five Bassano brothers, who were outstanding wind players and instrument makers, emigrated from Venice to England. Anthony II, Arthur's eldest surviving son and the only one to become a musician, was born on 15 October 1579 and baptized at All Hallows Barking on the 18th of that month. Anthony inherited his father's property in Mark Lane, keeping it as his London residence. In 1614 Anthony was described as one of the customary tenants of the Manor of Walthamstow Toni. During the Commonwealth, Anthony ran into financial problems with the government. Anthony was buried at All Hallows Barking on 22 April 1658. His will, presumably erroneously, says he was from All Hallows Staining, the parish in which the central portion of Mark Lane is situated. According to the terms of his father's will, the Mark Lane residence passed to Anthony's brother, Andrea.
