ABSTRACT

In this chapter, a detailed practical description is given of the different steps foreseen in the protocol on conducting tribocorrosion tests under sliding conditions. It also includes information on sample preparation (surface finish, cleanliness, etc.), testing devices required (potentiostat, reference and counter electrodes), tribological test conditions (applied load, frequency, rotational/oscillatory speed, track size), and electrochemical techniques (open circuit potential measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy conditions). As an illustrative case study, the tribocorrosion components appearing in the protocol are quantitatively calculated for stainless steel coupons immersed in a dilute sulphuric acid solution. The management of the experimental data obtained is discussed.
