ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a conceptual model of the team-development process. It explores a diagnostic framework that enables the members of a team to assess their current stage of development. The chapter provides a diagnostic input for a team-building process and insight into what issues may need to be explored to help the team move on to 'the next stage'. This assessment process is intended for real teams who should be told of the purpose of the assessment process before a start is made. Participants will require a copy of the 'Assessment', 'Scoring', 'The Five Stages of Team Development' and 'Exercise'. The participants are asked to score the assessment questionnaire individually. Data are collected from all team members, averaged and displayed on a master chart. A lecturette on the five stages of team development may be given by the facilitator. This may be drawn from the notes at the end of this assessment indicator.
