ABSTRACT

The metric was designed for use at senior management levels within an organization. It can be used for an inter-team development event between corporate staff and divisional level management. The activity is most effective when undertaken by a group of senior representatives of HQ and operating divisions. It is particularly helpful if the relevant chief executives are involved. This chapter reviews the effectiveness of team relationships between HQ and operating divisions in a large organization. It helps to improve vertical communication and teamworking. The facilitator introduces the activity and outlines the objectives. The facilitator ensures that the scores from the HQ side and the scores from the divisions' side are computed separately for each item, divided by the number of respondents to determine the arithmetic mean, and displayed. HQ has a poor record of success in working with government and other influencing bodies to create a supportive climate for the divisions.
