ABSTRACT

The metric was designed for use by facilitators who are seeking to answer the question, is this team a good candidate for team-building activities. This chapter provides a methodical framework for assessing the degree of readiness of a team for a team-building intervention. It also provides a simple conceptual model that identifies the factors that influence whether a team-building intervention is likely to be successful. The chapter describes what needs to be done to prepare a particular team as a good candidate for a team-building intervention. Team building can be an effective and economic use of resources. There are many opportunities to improve relationships and effectiveness. The team-building approach requires that people learn new skills, work through relationship problems and review current effectiveness. The most senior person in the team is particularly important. They will often be confronted with difficult feedback and must be open to the team-building process.
