ABSTRACT

The sixth work in Ms. 2295 in the Biblioteca Casanatense in Rome is a setting of the text 'Vidi speciosam.' 1 In Ms. 2295 this motet is attributed to Ludovico a Vittoria [= Tomás Luis de Victoria], It is the only work in this collection of thirty-two eight-voice motets credited to Victoria. This extensive anthology, which bears the title Motetti / à8. voci / Trovati in diversi Mss. di diversi excellenti / Autori, is in score format throughout. It appears that the present manuscript, which is a composite of individual fascicles of varying sizes by several copyists, was put together by Ludovico Baini, probably in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. 2
