ABSTRACT

Sociology can give insights into how music educational and social issues impact on each other in at least two ways. First, we could look at a particular music educational issue and enquire to what degree it may have social implications and how sociology can illuminate those implications. This is what I try to do in the chapter on Musikdidaktik and sociology elsewhere in this volume. Second, we could set out with a specific sociological theory, asking what we may see if we study music education through that lens.
