ABSTRACT

Gilbert Geis is correct about one thing: it has been a decade since publication of A General Theory of Crime. Beyond that, we find little of value in his harsh and theatric assessment of our work.1 Although we are disappointed to see that his unbalanced review is deemed worthy of publication, we grant that it contains a number of negative assessments of self-control theory advanced by others and thus provides an opportunity to respond to some of the issues they raise.2
