ABSTRACT
A dramatic change in just the last half of the 20th century is that truly wild places on earth no longer exist: humankind, in an endless search for resources to exploit and places to store pollution, now impacts every bit of the planet. The recent discovery of high levels of poisonous industrial chemicals in the Arctic peoples and their visually pristine environment is a striking example and is discussed later.
