ABSTRACT
Living within the environmental space made available to us by the planet avoids the need to anticipate the dangerous effects of industrial processes. It does this by reducing the volume of material inputs to those processes, and hence their polluting outputs, but without lessening quality of life. This is the only way to stay within the earth’s biophysical boundaries in a world of rapid economic expansion.
