ABSTRACT

This description covers freestanding walls up to three metres high which do not perform any structural function and which do not form part of a buildJ ing. The following sections deal with the construction of the walls and their foundations, reinforced brickwork, brick bonding, copings, damp-proof courses, mortars, and the construction of openings, arches and ornamental brickwork, as well as advice to the landscape designer on site workmanship. As more and more architects are including fine craftsmanship in brick and stone in their buildings, the landscape designer will be expected to follow their lead in creating interesting, elegant and soundly built landscape walls.
