ABSTRACT

The leaders decided to unite themselves under the One Percenter patch in order to distinguish themselves from pretenders and weekenders like the members of the American Motorcycle Association. The movement of outlaw motorcycle gang (OMG) into drug trafficking, an inherent international criminal market, resulted in the exportation of American-based OMGs beyond the boundaries of the United States. The description of OMGs is as outdated as Cressey’s definition of organized crime. It contains some elements of OMG members and groups and is far off the mark on the rest. The actual number of American OMGs is probably unknowable, One Percent motorcycle clubs/gangs fluctuate as clubs combine or are taken over by other gangs or put out of existence by law enforcement authorities. The Hell’s Angels are the most prominent and numerous international motorcycle gang. Sonny Barger is without a doubt the person responsible for the growth and expansion of the Hell’s Angels into organized crime and outside the United States.
