ABSTRACT

When the working stage is reached, group members are focused on identifying their goals and concerns, and are willing to work both within and outside the group to address these concerns. In both types of groups, the focus of treatment is both intrapsychic and interpersonal. The interplay between individual and group goals is based on processes, unique to group formats, referred to as curative or therapeutic factors. The group provides a sense of universality, which is important at this age because no child wants to be different or deviate. The group aims to provide honest and constructive feedback in a trusting climate that can greatly benefit individual members. Group members are asked to concentrate for a few moments with their eyes shut, and think about a goal to work on; they can write down their goal or draw it in symbols, then share it with the group when they are ready.
