ABSTRACT

Today I can tell you that I am a student with learning disabilities of every possible sort. I graduated from elementary school knowing that I am a problem child and that learning is not for me and will never be. I know that everyone thought I was just lazy; no one thought that it is simply difficult for me. The letters jump in front of my eyes and I can hardly combine them into a word and I don’t understand what I read. With time, learning became more complicated and I just did not manage. I was ashamed. What could I say? That I cannot read and write? When I manage to write I cannot read my own handwriting. Once in class, the teacher came over, looked at it, and said, “What a scribble!” Then I understood very quickly that it is better to be considered lazy and even arrogant than stupid.
