ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates a variety of activities; however, some of them rest on a unique theory based on a specific body of knowledge and promote specific methods of treatment. It describes methods rather than activities, and focuses on three that have proven extremely helpful in group work with children and adolescents. The chapter discusses the theoretical foundation and clinical applications for bibliotherapy, PhotoTherapy, and therapeutic cards. Bibliotherapy refers to the use of literature in the service of therapy and is one method of the creative or expressive arts, along with music, drama, dance, and painting. When people read or listen to a story or poem or watch a movie in which human beings display their vulnerability, weaknesses, and strengths, they tend to identify with the characters' experiences, suffering, and pain, as well as their happiness.
