Perspectives on a study of user understanding and perception of multimedia video
Little is known about the effectiveness of multimedia presentations, whether for education, entertainment or any other activity, on the human user. Each new generation of multimedia systems is driven by technological advances rather than by the impact of new technologies on the user. Research on the effectiveness of multimedia systems has been limited to the use of multimedia for instruction, see for example, Hapeshi and Jones (1992) and Mayer (1997). Effectiveness is currently measured in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) of the presentation, which is measured in purely technical terms such as end-to-end delay.
