ABSTRACT

Models of cognitive processing traditionally fail when they address higher mental processes such as consciousness and volition. Due in part to the lack of suitable diagramming methods, and despite pioneering work by Miller (1956), attempts to determine the channel capacities of information pathways in the mind have had only restricted success. Reasons for this are discussed, and suggestions for improvement made.
