ABSTRACT
This book brings together selected essays on employment, growth and development to focus on challenges and opportunities – old and new – in the contemporary world economy. The themes explored in this selection span a wide range of issues. Even so, there is an apparent unity in their diversity. The essays provide a macroeconomic analysis of development problems situated in the wider context of the world economy. The approach is in conformity with my instinctive preference to sketch the big picture with bold strokes on a wide canvas instead of attempting to join the little dots.
