ABSTRACT
Throughout his life, in spite of government stipends, the necessity to earn a sufficient living was never far from Grieg's mind. Therefore, much as he frequently complained that it was a chore, he wrote a number of occasional pieces to various commissions. Several of these were ‘demanded’ by his friend and colleague, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson.
