ABSTRACT

Although there is obviously some advantage in being able to predict whether someone has a higher risk of being crash involved, it would be far more useful to inform drivers of the type(s) of accident they are at a higher risk of having. This is particularly important given that research has found that individuals involved in some types of accidents in one reporting period are at a higher risk of involvement in a similar accident in the future (West, 1997). Therefore, with information on the type(s) of accidents an individual is most at risk of, specific interventions (training, education and enforcement) could be put in place to help the individual avoid being involved in that type of accident.
