ABSTRACT

This chapter presents most of the elements which can be part of a good design. Techniques are the tools of the exhibition designer. All special effects are expensive; however, so careful consideration must be given to the suitability of the effect in the circumstances of the information. To deal with space in the most effective way, various techniques have evolved and will go on evolving. One of the display techniques to emerge was the diorama. Projection has already been mentioned in connection with dioramas and working models, but in fact it has a far greater potential role in exhibitions. The whole business of communicating effectively in an exhibition is beset with problems, the greatest of which is keeping the interest of the visitor in probably the most complex circumstances for communicating yet devised. Planned, computer-controlled sequences can be used and operated by the visitor.
