ABSTRACT
Before analyzing Catalan folk and popular elements employed in Séverac’s later works, it is helpful to review briefly the historical and cultural background of Catalonia, as well as Catalan music instruments and dances. We can then examine more fully the contents in Séverac’s Catalan-based works as well as the Catalan regionalism that inspired the composer’s interest in the region’s indigenous culture.
