The text of the Rime established by Barbi in 1921, and if one of Toynbee's successors had wished to create a new edition of the Oxford volume, he would have to take account of very some textual advances in the area. This chapter describes some of the new additions to and exclusions from Dante's corpus proposed by De Robertis. De Robertis discusses the stemmatic questions and the authority of the attributions found across the tradition, followed by a meticulous stylistic analysis. De Robertis approaches certain issues in a highly systematic manner. De Robertis's stance is characterised by a healthy relativism. Canzoniere Chigiano is emphasizing how the variability of form, so typical of the medieval scriptaand reproduced by De Robertis, introduces an important change in the tradition of editing Dante. The task of editing Dante's Rime is a truly formidable one.
