ABSTRACT

Immigration has increased in many countries with asylum and family reunification programs and the flow of undocumented immigrants seeking better lives. The low birthrates of the original populations and the high immigration rates in European countries are changing many countries’ national or ethnic characteristics, with the long-term prospect that their original populations will become the minority. Globalization and immigration, illegal as well as legal, are creating cultural change in many of these countries. Demographic changes are driving a cultural change in the United States and many European countries. Globalization of commerce is also illuminating a light on the importance of diversity management. The Internet and computer-based communications such as Skype can instantly connect people across the world, helping to create a global community. The United States is a country of immigrants aside from the hundreds of tribes of indigenous peoples that were reduced in population and rounded up to reside in sovereign reservations across the country.
