ABSTRACT

Having arrived at camp in the last chapter, we tarry awhile in this. Important parts of a campstead are its buildings, walls, and such of its contents as, through experience and memory, link people to meaningful places, other people, and events. These structures and objects also reveal links to powerful conditions and forces of nature and society. Although experience is always intimate, it is also always implicated in cosmic immensities. This is precisely because humans and their experiential faculties, functioning in the here and now, are creatures of evolutionary design.
