ABSTRACT

From 1926 to 1928, Harbans Lal Chhibber (1899-1955) was Head of the Geography and Geology Department at the University of Rangoon. He then joined the Geological Survey of India as Assistant Superintendent, before returning to the University of Rangoon in 1939. His article describes the extraction of salt from sea water in the Amherst district of Burma. Salt distillation also occurred in the Kyaukpyu, Sandoway, Bassein, Hanthawaddy, Tavoy and Mergui districts, where similar extraction methods were adopted.1
