ABSTRACT

The idea was that the National Society Choir would give its second performance, after which auditions for a second choir would be held in the Midlands area, with members from the first choir joining it if they wanted to. In view of Hopkins being chosen for the Fairfield Halls concert and Dods for the Midlands Section, the decision to employ a less high-profile figure might suggest that this Section was not intended to attract significant media attention. The South Eastern Section was much in demand within the organization, and Institutes Invited the choir to give concerts. Discussion surrounding renaming the South Eastern Section had taken place in November 1974 as the choir's Sub-Committee considered its current name as problematic for publicity reasons. The South Eastern Section and the Welsh Section were immensely popular within the organization, performing numerous concerts throughout the federations during the early 1970s and should be seen as comprising the best musical talent within the organization.
