ABSTRACT
Amy Gutmann is the president of the University of Pennsylvania as well as a distinguished professor of political science, and professor of communication. Her most recent books include The Spirit of Compromise: Why Governing Demands It and Campaigning Undermines It (2012, with Dennis Thompson) and Why Deliberative Democracy? (2004, with Dennis Thompson).
