ABSTRACT

The initial proposal from which this project developed was made in 1997 by Christopher Scull and Alex Bayliss, in order to build on and extend the promising results which the combination of high-precision radiocarbon-dating and Bayesian modelling had delivered for analysis of the Buttermarket cemetery at Ipswich (Scull & Bayliss 1999a; 1999b; Scull 2009a, 261-70), and which seriation by correspondence analysis had generated for the cemetery at Edix Hill and other sites in Cambridgeshire (Malim & Hines 1998, 279-91; Hines 1999b). Both of these projects had been supported and funded by English Heritage.
