ABSTRACT

Mr. Finlayson, 1 in his report “On the Evidence and Elementary Facts on which the Tables of Life Annuities are founded” particularly insists on the importance of attending to the difference between the mortality of males and that of females. It is a question of immediate application in life insurances and annuities. If we represent the lives of ten males by 100,000, those of ten females will be 109,079, in Holland, according to the old tables of Kerssboom; 2 111,831 at Chester, (England,) according to Dr. Rice; 3 107,031 at Montpelier, according to Mourgne; 4 105,279 in Sweden; 112,050 in Amsterdam, and 103,764 at Brussels, according to M. Quetelet. 5
