ABSTRACT

Mass transit vehicles and aircraft are good examples of such vehicles, where large groups of people could become trapped during an accident and need a way to escape the wreckage. As such, easily accessible escape mechanisms are needed, in part due to the number and variety of users in such vehicles and the fact that passengers might be unfamiliar with the mechanical functions of the vehicle they are in. Some buses also have a hatch in the ceiling to enable escape if the front door is inoperable or if the bus is submerged in water. Movie theaters, shopping malls, and restaurants feature exit signage and emergency exit doors. In many countries, hotel rooms are required to include a map showing the hotel’s exits and escape routes. To enable occupants to escape or emergency response teams to enter, international residential building codes call for all bedrooms to include an emergency exit to the outside.
