ABSTRACT

Products should enable users to store and organize cords, cables, and tubes to prevent tripping hazards and ensure they do not get lost or damaged. Some products can develop a Medusa-like appearance, festooned with cords, cables, and tubes in cases where there is no place to put them. If cords, cables, or tubes become unavailable or inoperable, a device might not be able to perform a safety-critical function. Storing cords, cables, and tubes can be as simple as equipping a product with storage baskets or compartments. Power cords can be organized using recoiling mechanisms or brackets. Smaller diameter cables and tubes may be coiled and placed in covered bins or bags, or they can be gathered in a single channel that keeps them in an optimal, safe position. When designing brackets that store cords and cables, ensure they facilitate complete and effective accessory winding.
