ABSTRACT

A typical complaint rate in office buildings is 8 to 12 percent—generally based on individual perceptions of comfort such as temperature, humidity, noise, and other environment factors. When a 20 percent complaint rate is exceeded, the complaints are more likely to be associated with poor indoor air quality, and an investigation becomes more and more imminent.

Investigative steps into the source and/or cause of indoor air quality complaints include a documents review, building walk-through, interview of facilities personnel, observation of the surrounding areas, and an assessment of occupant complaints.
