ABSTRACT

This chapter describes children's collaborative and communicative competences in a playful situation in preschool. In modern preschool education, collaborative work is highly valued in relation to both content-related issues and socio-emotional aspects. The conditions for children to communicate in a preschool context are however strongly connected to preschool quality and teachers' competences to create playful, learning situations that motivate interaction. In order to create organizational conditions for shared learning, the preschool teacher's ability to introduce new knowledge, to teach and their didactic experiences is of vital importance. In the curriculum, preschool teachers' responsibilities for pedagogical issues are highlighted with the ambition to make preschool more learning oriented and of higher quality. In preschool, there is a rule that the materials used should result in a visible product, something that may be shown to the teacher, the other children and/or to the parents.
