ABSTRACT

Scholarship on EU enlargement has substantially contributed to advancing knowledge on institutional transfers. This chapter examines two phases of knowledge production, namely the construction and the dissemination of academic knowledge about institutional transfers in the context of enlargement. It highlights translation processes resulting from the application of existing theories to the study of new phenomena. It also points to persisting blind spots in the study of institutional transfers. Finally, based upon an updated theoretical toolbox, it suggests a novel way of understanding the transfers associated with enlargement policy.
