ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the methodologies employed to develop the narratives and responses. The focus of the VOICES project team shifted to the recruitment of participants to develop narratives and critical responses related to the exercise and denial of legal capacity. The purpose of the project's theoretical framework was to provide answers to previously unexplored questions in the literature on legal capacity, which would provide context and a starting point for the development of responses to narratives emerging from the project. The overarching objective of the VOICES project is to make visible the lived experience of disabled people in the exercise and denial of their right to legal capacity and to use this experience as a starting point for legal, social and political reform. A number of recruitment strategies were undertaken from January 2016 to attract applicants for both storyteller and respondent roles to the project.
