ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the various ideas for learning activities, related to some of the basic skills. The activities suggested for eye contact are also appropriate when focusing on good listening skills. Circle Time activities provide a structure in which good listening skills may be developed. There are many great social skills games and activities available through educational suppliers. Games are an engaging way of building relationships and developing skills such as turn-taking and listening to one another. The children take turns to try out the different roles, either within a session or in subsequent sessions. Some children may need individual pre-coaching to develop the necessary skills before beginning group work. Through a series of social skills sessions where video and role play was used extensively, the girls became more aware of how they were coming across through their verbal and non-verbal communication.
