ABSTRACT

The economic impact of female entrepreneurship is increasing on a daily basis and its contribution is noticeable worldwide. This chapter focuses on the main characteristics, challenges, and dynamics that female entrepreneurs have in developing countries. It offers an overview of entrepreneurship in the region, and then presents the main trends in female entrepreneurship, identifying gaps and future research directions. Financing for business is a massive roadblock for women in this area of the world. South Asia is currently among the lowest region in terms of the number of women participating in the workforce. Data that have been collected on gender equality and the empowerment of women in Sub-Saharan Africa suggest that women face a very difficult environment. There are many elements affecting women's ability to go into business in this area; among them, the main reason is definitely related to women's family responsibilities.
