ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the researcher and one of the participants, one who collaborated with the school staff to realize the primary methodological aim of the study, namely, to present participants' views to their satisfaction. First, an important feature of the school is that it is located in what has traditionally been a working-class area. A sizeable minority of the pupils come from Housing Commission flats and houses, which is indicative of the low incomes and social problems associated with the area. Second, both staff and pupils are acutely aware of the effects of the poor quality of the buildings, and of the difficult conditions under which they have to work (such as noise from other classes, and traffic) which affect the morale of the school. The pupils had been given a duplicated map of a country and told to colour in the areas of high, medium and low population density.
