ABSTRACT

The chapter explores the process of projectification in the area of culture in the city. The example of the European City of Culture Kraków 2000, embedded in the contexts of changes in Poland after 1989, offers a unique perspective for observation of the proliferation of the project-based activities development. In the case of Kraków, it was a contribution to fundamental changes in the way of managing the artistic offer of the city. Thus we argue that implementation of a large project, such as the European City of Culture 2000, triggered the process of projectification. The changes, as observed on the example of Kraków, may result in a different, project-based way of managing culture, and create a space for a number of new “agents” in the area of culture projectification. The chapter describes who the “agents” of projectification are and how they act in order to (consciously or unconsciously) make projects a framework for cultural events in Kraków.
