ABSTRACT

The first case-study chapter centres on the developmental trajectory of Hardy, a second-year English studies and English language education major at CUHK who joined a semester-long international exchange programme in Singapore. In the online course, Hardy developed a higher level of sociopragmatic awareness in English, intercultural sensitivity, and interest in international affairs. A comparison of his pre- and post-course IDI results revealed that he experienced significant growth in intercultural competence, moving from Denial to the second half of Minimization.
